(Deutsches Zentrum für Luft – und Raumfahrt; Projektträger, Gesundheit – DLR-PT)
DLR is a non-governmental, non-profit German research organisation. Its Project Management Agency DLR-PT is mandated by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and other ministries with regard to implementation and management of governmental programmes for research funding. DLR-PT has a staff of around 1000 and has five departments.
The “health research” department of DLR-PT manages the areas of biomedical, clinical and health services research for BMBF, administrating a total of about 220 Mio € annually in several funding programs aiming at fostering research infrastructure as well as internationally competitive research in the life science area. The health research department also hosts the National Contact Point Health Research and manages funding measures for the German Ministry of Labour and the innovation fund of the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA). Regarding personalised medicine, DLR-PT is coordinating the secretariat of the International Consortium on Personalised Medicine (IC PerMed) and is an active partner in the ERA-Net cofound Personalised Medicine, both EU funded projects. Moreover, DLR-PT is in charge of various national funding activities in this field.

Maren Walgenbach obtained her Master in Health Economic at the University of Cologne and her PhD in health science at Witten/Herdecke University in 2012 and was a postdoc fellow at the Institute for Research in Operative Medicine (IFOM), division Evidence-based health services research, at Witten/Herdecke University.
In 2014 she joined the DLR Project Management Agency (DLR PT) as scientific officer. Since then, she has been involved in several funding programs of Federal Ministry of Health and the innovation fund of the Federal Joint Committee.

Wolfgang Ballensiefen obtained his PhD in biology at the University of Göttingen in 1997 and was a postdoc fellow at the MRC LMCB at the UCL in London until 2000.
In 2000 he joined the DLR Project Management Agency (DLR PT) as senior scientific officer. Since then, he has been involved in several funding programmes including e.g. innovative medicine, ageing research and personalised medicine. He is coordinator of the ERA-Net cofund on cardiovascular research (ERA-CVD, 2015-2020), partner in the ERA-Net for personalised medicine (ERA-PerMed, 2017-2022) and vice-chair of the International Consortium for Personalised Medicine (ICPerMed, since 2016). Furthermore, he was coordinator for the CSA on Personalised Medicine (PerMed, 2013-2015).
