iMTA is a university-based scientific institute that is engaged in independent research in Health Technology Assessment (HTA), including Health Economics, Outcomes Research and Health Policy Analysis. It operates under the umbrella of the Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Since its foundation in 1988, iMTA has played a key role in HTA research in the Netherlands, in Europe and worldwide.

Matthijs Versteegh, PhD is business director of iMTA. He holds a master (cum laude) in science & technology studies from Maastricht University and a PhD in health economics from Erasmus University of Rotterdam. Matthijs has worked as a consultant for the international firm Ecorys and conducted policy analyses for the World Bank, WHO and European Commission. Matthijs is experienced in working with public and private stakeholders in health care.

Heleen Vellekoop, MSc obtained her MSc Health Economics as well as a BA in Philosophy, Politics & Economics at the University of York. During an internship at the Health Economics Research Unit at the University of Aberdeen she was involved in a project measuring patient preferences in order to better tailor support for self-management of chronic conditions. Before joining iMTA, she worked at the Ghanaian Ministry of Health, where she conducted an economic evaluation of the benefits package of Ghana’s National Health Insurance Scheme. At iMTA, she works mainly on projects related to personalised medicine.

Simone Huygens, PhD holds an MSc in Health Economics, Policy and Law (2013) with a specialization Health Technology Assessment from the Erasmus University Rotterdam. Her master thesis focused on the influence of variations in implementation of a COPD disease management program across primary care teams on costs and effects. She completed her PhD at the Erasmus MC on early Health Technology Assessment of tissue engineered heart valves for which she has developed a patient-level simulation model.
