Syreon Research Institute was established in 2008 in Hungary. It is an independent research institute classified as a small and medium-sized enterprise. SRI conducts research and modelling in the fields of health economics to improve the evidence base of resource allocation, policy and pricing decisions. Scientists of SRI are experts at the interface of clinical research and economic evaluation and have published widely in this area.

Balázs Nagy graduated from the University of Debrecen Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (MSc in 2000; PhD in 2009). Between 2000-2004 he was working for the Hungarian National Health Insurance Fund and the Hungarian Ministry of Health where he specialized in managed care. He spent the 2003-2004 semester with a doctoral scholarship at the University of Sheffield, School of Health and Related Research. From October 2004, he was granted a 4-year joint research fellowship and an academic research position at Corvinus University of Budapest and University of Sheffield. Currently he is a Senior Research Fellow at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) and University of Sheffield and Head of Economic Modelling Division at Syreon Research Institute. His research interests are health technology assessment and modelling in health care, health insurance, health care financing, capitation finance, and risk adjustment.

Tamás Zelei MD PhD graduated from the Semmelweis Medical University (Medical Doctor), followed by the Corvinus University (BSc in Economics). He finished his PhD studies at the Eötvös Loránd University (under the supervision by Zoltán Kaló) where he researched the health economic aspects of rare diseases and orphan drugs. After completing the academic requirements for his degree in 2015 he joined Syreon Research Institute as a full-time researcher. He is a part-time university lecturer at the Eötvös Loránd University (MSc in Health Economics, Principles of health economic evaluation) and a member of the Social Science Working Group of the Hungarian Society of Personalised Medicine.

László Szilberhorn MSc has a master’s degree in health policy with a specialization in health economics from the Health Policy, Planning and Financing MSc program at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, and a bachelor’s degree in political sciences. He joined Syreon Research Institute (SRI) in 2013 as a trainee. After receiving his MSc degree in June 2014, he joined SRI full-time as a health economist, focusing mainly on health economic modelling, data extraction from international healthcare databases and systematic reviews. He started his PhD studies in September 2016 in the Doctoral School of Sociology, at Eötvös Loránd University Faculty of Social Sciences. He is researching the economic and social aspects of hepatitis C eradication.
